Community Church of Elkhorn

In Galatians we hear about the tension between the flesh and the spirit.  The two are in opposition to one another and at any one time they both are trying to get our attention and dominate our life.  However the fleshly part of us is concerned with self while the Spirit of the redeemed is concerned with honoring God with ones life.  The agenda of these two opposing forces tugs at us all day long.  So what is the sign post that reveals which one is dominating us at any one time? 

The sign post is our attitude as revealed in our words.  In James 3:13-14 we read "Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.  But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth."  As you read on you find that such a negative fleshly response to life causes discord and evil to thrive. 

In context with the rest of Chapter 3 it is apparent that the words we use can be guided by selfish ambition or by a desire to honor God.  So a sign post of maturity in Christ is found in the inner attitude that is seen in the way we speak to others.

Be aware that your words reveal the level of spirituality and the level of Spiritual control you have over your life.  Let's glorify God with the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts.
