James 4:13-17 speaks of individuals who thought they were the masters of their own fate. Here they were boasting about there humanly devised plans. But God reminds them that though we often plan and see our plans succeed, and though we ought to make plans for the future, we also must remember that they ultimately depend upon God's will. If God will's it, you can count on it. When man sets a plan it may or may not come to pass because man is not in control of all the events that can affect such plans.
We humans find all kinds of reasons to argue and fight. We say we want peace but actually what we mean is we want everyone to agree with me so we can have peace. But God calls His followers to be Peace makers, to take the first step in establishing peace between us and others.
This year we have decided to adopt a new mission statement, "Reach our world with the Love of Christ". To do this we will have to be able to reflect Christ in our words and deeds. The love of Christ is that love that came to earth to give the enemy's of God an opportunity to enter God's kingdom. So we must understand the cause of conflict because it is the enemy of our mission.
John 14:1-6
Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 "And you know the way where I am going." 5 Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Today I lost a friend whom God introduced me to some 19 years ago. As a young pastor this person was part of the congregation that gave me my first opportunity to pastor a congregation. As a raw talent trying to minister to the congregation, they accepted me as a student pastor and worked with me as I made the normal first pastoral mistakes. When the time came to leave that work and start another they were strong advocates of the new work we started. They were not able to do as much in the new work because her health began to deteriorate. But they were always encouraging, supportive, and a joy to be with. I'm speaking of Jane Stearns who went home to be with our Lord today at about 2 p.m.
It's another monday in beautiful wisconsin. This is just the kind of day we all dream of in the summer and rarely get. Have you ever wondered if this is the type of day we will enjoy in heaven? Have you ever considered how wonderful it will be up there. No pain, no heartache, no disappointments. Wonder if there will be brewer baseball in heaven? Guess not after a disapointing weekend. I'm rambling because I'm just testing this site out to see if it will appear on the our web page. But think about heaven especially when such a wonderful day as this one comes our way. Have a great week, enjoy the wonderful weather, and keep thinking about heaven. It's just around the next bend in the road.
